A Well Deserved Fun Day..

1 Mar

Life around here has changed A LOT lately for me. Over the past 6 months I can look back and see three new “things” that I’m actively involved in that have been life changing.

1. Running~ and not just “ugh I have to workout” kinda running, but “OMGosh! I can’t wait to get out and go for 5 miles” kinda running. I’m in love, I’m hooked, and I can tell how much healthier my body feels because of this new love.

2. Bible Study~ I’ve led a few smaller studies before, but this past September I stepped up to being a leader for my churches big morning group. I can really see how the Lord is using me and teaching me above and beyond being just a regular attendee to the meetings. He’s growing me and stretching me in ways I could not have fathomed!

3. BIC Bands~ in the past month, my business has taken off. It’s always been my prayer that doors would either open or close, and lately I’ve had some HUGE open doors. This also means that all my free time is now dedicated to sewing and packing orders. AND, this means that as a mommy, I’m extra extra busy.

SO, yesterday, I dropped everything and took my kids out for a day of fun! It was a well deserved day off for all of us. (I think this will also be the “calm” before the storm as I get ready to send off my large expo order at the end of this month).

We headed down to North County San Diego where our first stop was for me =) We swung into the Running Skirts Flagship store in Encinitas. I got a tour of the wharehouse in back~ OH MY! There are SOOO many skirts in there! Rows, and rows of skirts!! I got to see a sneak peak of the new line of skirts that are coming out any day and got to purchase a new black one with pretty flowers (not too sure how many details I can give away~ but the line is GORGEOUS!!! ) I also grabbed a sale skirt and a pair of black compression socks =) I’ll post a full review later~ but needed to throw it out there~ RunningSkirts.com is offering my readers a custom discount on nonsale items! If you enter A Mom On The Run at checkout they’ll give you 15% off your order!! They will have to change it in the office, so you’ll see it as a credit back.

After my pit stop, we headed over to Legoland California for the kids. We had tickets to come back from our trip in December and we couldn’t have picked a better day to go! The weather was perfect, there was NO lines and the kids were great! We went on every ride we wanted to and stayed till they closed at 5. This is a great place to take younger kids~ size wise, the place is great! I’d highly recomend this place!

Ok~ I gotta get~ BUSY day ahead of me! (Got Bible Study, BIC Bands and running on the schedule today~ in addition to all my usual Mom duties!!) Have a GREAT day!!!

Going BIG TIME!!

23 Feb

I realized last night AFTER I hit post, how many mistakes were in my original draft =/… I did go through and revise them, but some of you probably received it via email and now think I’ve got terrible writing skills… I thought I’d try to reclaim myself by letting you know I was typing that while laying in bed on my iPod touch… the key pad is small on that thing!

Now that I’ve got that off my chest, we can all move on! I’ve mentioned in a previous post that you might be able to see BIC Bands at Marathon expo’s this summer… well… guess what~ it’s almost pretty much official!!! (working on finalizing the contract right now). I was contacted by the owner of a new running apparrel company called Run Pretty Far that will be launching at the Eugene Marathon Expo on April 29.

Run Pretty Far is an “apparel and accessory business specifically for woman’s distance running. [Their] main offering will be performance wear tops with custom graphic designs and illustrations. [They] will be rounding out the line with some handmade accessories and jewelry as well. The entire concept is about translating the qualities of joy, bliss, beauty, femininity, and the delights of nature onto running goods.”  Sounds fun, pretty and cool, huh?!

I’m beyond excited, and busy on this end getting ready to ship a Big Ole shipment of sparkly BIC Bands off to a west coast expo near you…

I’ll keep you posted on the details of which marathons Run Pretty Far will be at, and also try and get some you some sneak peaks/first reviews of their products!

And the winner’s are…..

27 Dec

What a great turn out for my BIC Bands give away! Did you win? Read below to see who the lucky winners are!

Here’s how I figured out the winners: first of all, I gave each person the opportunity to enter the drawing twice, by following the blog and by stating your favorite BIC Band. A few of you put your two answers in the same comment, but out of the niceness of my heart, I made a spreadsheet and put everyone’s entries in that way~ (so everyone got the number of entries the commented about). There were also a few who commented on the BIC Bands page instead of the original post, so I also added you to the spreadsheet =). I put all the entries in and put them in order of when they were posted to the blog. All in all, there were 73 entries, so without further ado, here’s the 7 lucky numbers, thanks to random.org!

  1. 29~ Cynde 12/17 4:25 pm
  2. 26~ Tyler 12/16 5:52 pm
  3. 50~ Karli H. 12/22 1:19 pm
  4. 49~ Karli H. 12/22 1:18 pm
  5. 45~ Missy 12/22 10:29 am
  6. 43~ Caly 12/22 10:24 am
  7. 69~ Jane 12/26 3:52 pm

Congratulations winners! Please contact me at AMomOnTheRun@gmail.com and we’ll get to chattin’ about your goodies!

Christmas Wii Woes (and other good stuff!)

26 Dec

Whew, what a whirlwind of 24 hours! We are very blessed to be surrounded by friends and family. All of our immediate family lives in Southern California, and come Christmas, everybody wants to see everyone. Which makes for a fun but at times hectic Holiday! Christmas Eve I spent time with my BFF from High School who flies back from New York to be with her family. We then headed out to my aunt’s house for Christmas Eve dinner (presents #1 for kids). Then comes Christmas morning at home (presents #2), next door to see friends (presents #3) head over to my in-laws to see that side of the family (presents#4) then up to my mom’s for Christmas dinner (presents #4). WHEW! That was tiring just to type it all out! And we’re not even done yet! We have one more set of close friends we’ve got to get together with, but as you can tell, I had a bit of trouble fitting them in over the past few days.

On to Christmas here… Santa thought we had been mighty good, and brought us a Wii! I was so excited, in fact, my husband and I were more excited than the kids~ they wanted to know where the rest of the presents were…lol! Last night after getting back from my mom’s, we spent some good time playing Wii Resort. OhMyGosh! Santa forgot to warn me that the next day I’d be dying! Anyone else have that happen? Seriously, my back and arms are killing me. My husband thinks it’s hilarious… he says it’s how I play (I do kinda get a little into it….. ok……. maybe a LOT into it…. but isn’t that how you’re supposed to play?) And he also thinks I’m a little too competitive (he just doesn’t like the fact that I kicked his tush on the bicycle game…. which is what I think did it to me~ tried to teach The Girl how to do it today and couldn’t manage to… hurt too much!!!)

No, but seriously. The Wii was made for people like me. Why didn’t we get this thing earlier? I was always the kid playing the video game and turning the controller, thinkin’ it would make me move, and always came in last place cause the arrow button was what really needed to be pushed…

Now we’re looking for some good game recommendations. Need something the little one’s can play too.

And just so you know, I think my 3 y.o. DD has definitely got my genes… she was trying to peddle on her own on the bike game and she’s standing up in the living room running in place every time I told her to peddle =) Cute!!!

Onto running land…. this morning, like I said earlier, my back was killing me.  My Man and I wanted to get in a good long run together today, since we had been stuck inside for the past week do to the weather. I just wasn’t feeling it! I knew I needed the run, to stay on track for the half training I’m doing, but my back had me scared. My Man recommended running a bit on the treadmill to see if I loosened up a bit, and I did! So we headed out for a long run while Grandma watched the kids. I wanted to go for 8 and he was leaning for 6~ because it was an out and back, we thought we decide once we got into it. To make this long story shorter… he ended up opting for the 8 miles and I’m so glad he did! It was his longest run yet (which is always fun!) and I felt great! I was full of energy and tackled those hills! It’s always funny to me how one run can totally stink and another, longer run, can have you sittin’ on the top of the world! I think a lot of it had to do with proper nutrition~ today I made sure to get my fuel in me this morning and then lots of water and cytomax and gu at the times throughout the run.

Now I feel sore, but it’s one of those good sore’s. The kind you’re proud of. That good feeling sore that keeps you coming back =) (but my back does still hurt from that darn Wii!!!)

On a completely different note… Have you entered the BIC Bands give away HERE? Today is the last day! You have until midnight PST tonight to enter, and tomorrow morning I’ll pick a lucky winner! Don’t forget, the more that enter, the more that win! One in every ten entry will win!!!

Happy Running!

I promise I’ll have more of my race recap later today, but I wanted to take a quick moment and share with you an awesome raffle a fellow blogging friend is doing now.

Raising funds for others in need has become a big deal for me. It really hit me during my race this past weekend, that we can all do something for others~ because we can! Katye, from Long Legs is raising funds for two amazing organizations through a HUGE raffle. Back on My Feet is one of the groups. They are a non-profit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of the homeless population by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. (How cool is that?!) The next group is Just as I am which supports Down Syndrome Awareness. (Equally as cool!)

Katye asked if BIC Bands would participate~ and since (1) she named these awesome bands, and (2) this raffle really represents the heart of BIC Bands, how could I say no?  But BIC Bands are just ONE of the awesome things you could win~ check out the ENTIRE line up here. And, please, consider giving.

A little inspiration…

22 Oct

Thanks for all your ideas to my quandary HERE. I actually think I’m going to take everyone’s advice and compile it…. I’m going to find an old jacket and bring it with me to drop at the sidelines, or keep on if I’m still cold and ditch it on the course. I’m also going to take some knee high socks and snip them and make my own arm sleeves out of. I’m also going to toss in a compression t-shirt just in case I decide I want to wear that underneath. One question posed was if I buy new sleeves, what am I going to do with them if I get hot? I was reading up on another brand of sleeves~ Moeben~ a while back, and they say you can comfortably push the sleeves down if you want to. (Or I might just take them off and find a nifty way to hook them to my fuel belt…. I’m pretty sure I’m over analyzing the entire thing and I’ll be just fine!

On to a little running inspiration… an old friend of mine from high school is also an avid athlete whose always amazing me with her triathlon events. She posted this video on Facebook and I wanted to share it with you:

I’ve got a busy day today, but hope you find it inspiring!

(OH! And one last thing: TODAY I started $5 Fridays in the BIC Bands Shop. Check it out! One day sale on 5 bands, when they’re gone, they’re gone!)
