Hey friends!I’m so excited for today’s post! Back in May, while at the San Diego Rock ‘N Roll Relay Marathon, I was in search of a new pair of earphones. I was mainly running with the “standard” earphones that came with my iPod, and wasn’t satisfied. I had tried a pair of the “hook” earphones, but they were even worse. Needless to say, I wasn’t content with my set up and knew I needed something different. We were literally on the last row of the marathon convention while my friends were looking at some wristband thing that helped with balance….I saw some earphones next door and told them I’d leave them to their “magic bracelets” while I looked at something I really needed.
The gentleman working the Auria booth fit me in a pair of earphones and started the music so I could see how they worked. The next thing he did, threw me for a loop. He turned the volume up and continued to carry on a conversation with me. WHAT? I was confused! He continued to explain to me that the Auria Exceed earphones were created so that the wearer could hear the ambient noises around them, like the cars that are approaching from the rear, etc. I was sold and purchased them on the spot.
Here’s a little bit of my experience of running with my Auria Exceed Earphones….
My first run was at the San Diego Rock ‘N Roll Relay. I loved that there is a toggle switch on the front of the earphones so that you can turn the volume up and down easily (major plus for when the iPod is stored securely in a pouch). There’s also a button that you can answer calls with if you have it connected to your iPhone (this will come in handy for me if Verizon would ever get on the ball!).
The earphones are also extremely comfortable. From the first use, I noticed a major difference. The Exceed Earphones come with different “eco-rings” to size them properly for your ear. Major plus! I have small ears so they didn’t feel like I had something stuffed in there. They also sit in your ear a little differently than regular earphones. They are designed so that the earphones sit directly at the openings of the ear canals. They aren’t stuffed into your ear. This helps to not totally block out the external sounds like other earphones. I experienced the benefit of this first hand when on a morning run and could hear the dog that came charging at me from behind. I had my music up, but could still hear the dog coming…come to think of it, these earphones saved me from what would have been a super bad encounter!
Another plus for the setup of these earphones is they don’t fall out of your ear! I put them in and forget about them…no adjusting, no fidgetting…they stay where put. I think this video from Auria says it best:
Watch the video HERE
Yeah, these things don’t move!
They also have a hilarious video on their facebook page HERE.
Another cool thing about these earphones is you can personalize them. Their website has a ton of different snap on personalizers you can choose from to make them your own. I stuck with the fun tribal looking one’s that were included in the package.
Here’s a few fun things I learned about from Dave over at Auria:
-
The word “AURIA” is an Italian derivative that basically can be translated as “music in air”. This is what we are delivering: high-quality music to user’s ears WHILE users can still hear ambient sounds around them (we call that “being engaged with their environment”).
- This company was founded to resolve problems that I and others saw in existing earphones for athletes. I ran competitively for over 30 years and also cross-trained with a road bike for over 20 years. I have a love of music and fully believe the research that indicates that listening to music while training enhances the experience and likely may improve the effectiveness of the training.
You can purchase your own AURIA earphones at various retailers or go online and get the on AMAZON or directly from THEIR SITE. And here comes the really really cool part! I contacted Auria to let them know about my awesome experience and they sent me a pair of White EXCEED earphones to give away to my readers!

I am a follower! So that picture of the ear … is it you? Penn is my alma mater!
I’m a subscriber of your blog and get updates via email.
I like the idea of Auria’s being able to hear ambient sounds. I currently use Skull Candy earphones and even at low volumes they block out all other noise, so I no longer use them while running.
My power song is Breathe Into Me by Red.
I don’t have a blog, so I shared this on Facebook.
Sidenote, IMO the “magic bracelets” were pure snake oil and a waste of my money.
I follow your blog via reader! 😀
My power song at the moment is space jam lol
I really like that you can put your ipod in a pouch and can turn the volume up or down with the button on the earphones! 🙂
I posted your giveaway on my blog! 😀 http://zanetaruns.blogspot.com

I visited the Auria site and my favorite feature is definitely being able to hear ambient noise.
My power song is “I’m on a Boat” by The Lonely Island. Go ahead, laugh at me! 😀
I love that you can personalize them — and SO many choices!! I like the pink “run.” These are so cool! I have to have them 🙂
I am now a follower — I clicked the subscribe by email button on the right 🙂
I am SO not a “club” person… but my new song for running is “club can’t handle me” by Flo Rida. It has a great beat!!
My all-time favorite is final countdown (cheesy, I know)
I was going to follow you via email anyways b/c I just found your blog & think it’s great (I’m a fellow mommy runner)…so this giveaway is a bonus :).
Checked out their site–like that the volume control is so accessible. I hate trying to fiddle around when the iPod is in my arm band. And the ambient noise thing is of course brilliant.
I’ve got ya in my feed reader!
I love the little personalizers!
I LOVE Salsa de Noche by The Gypsy Kings
I really like that they stay in your ears. Mine currently do not!
My current power song is either “Running Away” by Hoobastank or “Tik Tok” by Ke$ha

My current power song is Eminem’s “Til I Collapse”. I added it to my playlist on my last 10K and it gave me a boost of energy at the end of the race, right when I needed it!
I visited the AURIA site and really like that their headphones are designed for comfort. My current earbuds are extremely uncomfortable by the end of my long runs so I’ve been looking for earphones that won’t inflict pain 🙂
I love that you can hear someone who might say something to you while you’re working out at the gym! I always feel like Im ignoring people with my regular headphones in!
My power song is Unbreakable by Fireflight!
Tiffany
Love the run personalized ear piece
My power song is amazing by aerosmith
I’m entering! Hope I win!
How did I not see this? You know I’m a follower =)
My favorite this is that they “should” stay in your ear. My current ones have the stuff like ear plugs that are supposed to expand..YEAH, not so much! I’ve been looking for some like this.
Posted this on my FB…I have more readers there =)
I’m a follower =)
I like the fact that they stay in place. My current earbuds are uncomfortable and fall out =(
i don’t use rss or follow blogs, but i like free stuff, and the melissa before me posted it to her FB so i saw it there.
i like the different personalizers on the auria site…the different categories like trendy, retro, etc. are cool.
i posted this to my facebook page since i don’t blog.
my current favorite power song is imma be by the black eyed peas. that song gets me movin!
I forgot to give you my power song…OMG by Usher or Find Your Love by Drake (that one makes me think of my Berry & always puts a smile on my face)
I’m training for my first 5k and I am having a heck of a time with headphones bc of the shape and size of my ears…they are freakishly small. I never win anything — this would be awesome!
Hi Sandy, These sound awesome and I would love a pair! I visited the site and think I would love everything about them, from the volume control to the fact that they don’t move. I lost the foam part to one of my headphones right before the Vegas half and it was miserable to try to get it to stay put the whole way. Also love that it doesn’t block all noise… great for running!
My power song is “Til I Collapse” by Eminem.
